Passive Speakers all need to be powered by a suitable power amplifier. As passive speakers do not have any built-in amplification they are the ideal choice for installation, particularly where they are not easily accessed. It is vital that any amplifier is well matched to the speaker for power and impedance rating to ensure efficient running and prevent possible short circuit and equipment failure!
